capy Terms of Service
The short version: capy is free, open-source software provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. You connect it to each service with your own accounts and credentials, and you are responsible for following those services' terms.
1. What capy is
capy is open-source software maintained by Tai (GitHub: Tai-ch0802) as an individual. It searches music, controls playback, reads playlists from Spotify, Apple Music and a local music library, and syncs or transfers them to Spotify and the local library (Apple Music is currently read-only). It runs on your own computer; we provide no online service, accounts or hosting. By downloading, installing or using capy you agree to these terms.
2. License
capy's source code and released binaries are provided under the MIT License. Where these terms differ from the MIT License with respect to using, copying and distributing the software, the MIT License prevails.
3. Your accounts and third-party services
- capy connects to Google, Spotify and Apple Music with your own accounts and credentials. You are responsible for having the right to use those accounts and for complying with each service's terms of use and developer terms.
- capy is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Spotify, Apple or Google. Those services may change or discontinue their interfaces at any time, which may cause parts of capy to stop working.
- The way capy connects to Apple Music is not officially supported by Apple and may stop working at any time. Whether to use it is your decision and at your own risk; capy states this again, explicitly, when you sign in to Apple Music.
- capy does not provide, host or resell any music content. It only reads and writes the playlists and playback state in your own accounts.
4. Acceptable use
Do not use capy for unlawful purposes, to infringe the rights of others, or to scrape data in bulk or circumvent limits in ways that violate a third-party service's terms.
5. Your data
How capy accesses and stores data is described in the Privacy Policy. Before writing to any playlist, capy lists the changes and asks for your confirmation; please read that table before confirming. We recommend backing up regularly with capy export.
6. No warranty
capy is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Track matching can be wrong, and syncing can be incomplete because of service limitations.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the author and contributors are not liable for any damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, capy, including loss of playlists or data, or restrictions placed on your account by a third-party service.
8. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms; when we do, we will update this page and the effective date above. Every revision is kept in this file's version history. Continuing to use capy after a change means you accept the revised terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
